The floating taper lever effectively allows you to change the closeness of your cut between guide comb lengths without “clicking” into a specified level. Without a ball bearing to stop at each level, moving or sliding the lever up for a closer cut, and down for a longer cut at varying positions along the side of the clipper permits more flexibility and options than a click lever. This is particularly useful for fading and blending as you can be more precise with your cutting lengths. When the taper lever is at the highest position it will pull the top blade closer to the other on the hair clippers and result in a shorter cut. A taper is when hair gradually changes from one length to another. A fade is a shorter taper that blends or fades into the skin—hence the name. Taper levers are situated on the side of hair clippers, conveniently placed to move with your thumb. The taper lever effectively allows you to change the length of cut without using graders, by sliding one of the hair clippers blades along the other. The taper lever is also very useful as if heavy cutting has jammed your hair clippers; you can simply push the level back and forth to remove any hair.
To Assemble: remove the taper lever from the clipper. Be sure to be mindful of the spring, metal click nob, screw and wing nut if included. Assemble the lever color and style of your choice with the existing taper lever screw and nut. Tighten the taper lever assembly screw to the desired tightness for the preferred stiffness of the opening/closing action of the lever.
